The Design
Today’s filmmakers and videographers demand choices. Many insist on variable length camera cranes and the ability to utilize them in both remote and rideable modes.
The Super Aerocrane is completely modular in its design to afford maximum variation in its lengths. It is configured in 1' increments with quick connecting couplers providing a range of 6'4" to 28'6", with an effective lens height of 27’4' at full extension. When adapted to a two-man rideable formation, the lens height reaches 14'.

The Construction

Whereas most crane manufacturers utilize welded aluminum parts, the Super Aerocrane is constructed from the highest quality tempered aluminum. The extrusions themselves are actually cryogenically tempered (freezing process) and combined with stainless steel parts and precision bearings to maximize strength and minimize weight. The entire crane arm, including the counterweight bucket (without remote head, camera, and counterweights) weighs only 750 lbs. in the remote configuration.
Lightweight construction combined with exceptional engineering and modularity allow users of the Super Aerocrane to shoot from the most inaccessible places. It can be mounted onto almost any regular dolly and tracking package.

Bases for the Super Aerocrane
The Super Aerocrane Precision Base has been constructed specifically for the Super Aerocrane and is recommended for remote crane lengths 24' and over, as well as for use in the rideable mode. The Precision Base features roundy-round and conventional steering, stabilizing jacks, and speed rail push/pull bars. It will accept balloon tires, track wheels and stage wheels.
Set up on a pyramid base, the Super Aerocrane turns conventional camera cars, boats, and trains into insert vehicles. The modular design of the crane arm lends itself to use on rooftops, scaffolding, and a variety of unusual off-the-ground positions that are often impractical with other camera cranes.

Special Features
The patented dampening system of pan and tilt virtually eliminates boom whip from fast or sudden moves. Precision bearings and low operational weight result in exceptionally smooth operation of the crane arm with a minimum of counterweights. Aerocrane’s heavy-duty four-way leveling head corrects up to 5°.

Cutting-Edge Capabilities
Also available from Aerocrane, Inc. is a unique computer control package, which can control digital remote heads for target tracking and back pan. It also incorporates the important feature of calculating parallax corrections while referencing the pan and tilt of the crane and the selected focal length.
Built into the heart of the Super Aerocrane are direct drive digital encoders which, in conjunction with the software of the computer control package, automate up to 16 functions including third axis, zoom, focus, iris and camera speed. Each of these functions is triggered from specific crane positions. The Super Aerocrane direct drive encoders can further assist motion control applications such as crane move and position recording.
